Easy, inexpensive, Scripture Memory Gift For Men

I recently shared with you an easy, inexpensive gift I made for my fellow tutors here.

One of my priorities for the new year is to keep scripture visible in our home, and hide it in our hearts.

I was looking for a masculine way to make a scripture memory kit for my husband and boys, and came up with this!

These place card holders by Nate Berkus, were on clearance at Target. Only $6.98.

These scripture cards were only $3.99 for the whole pack. There were enough cards to divide among the three of them.
The back of the cards have a little more info about the verse. I really like that.

I hope these will be a blessing to my family, and yours as well!

Merry Christmas!

Easy, Inexpensive, Scripture Memory Gift Idea

I teach at a co-op with a few sweet, godly women. I wanted to get them a special gift for Christmas without spending much. Here is what I came up with.

Scripture Memory Kits!

I purchased these little place card holder’s from Michael’s. They are $12.99 for 6, but with a 40% off coupon, I only paid $7.79. $1.30 each. You can find them in the wedding section.

I bought the cute little bags at Michael’s, too, on clearance for only $2 each.

I found a pack of color lined index cards on clearance at Walmart for only 48 cents! I divided them up into each bag, so only about 10 cents each.

I wrote an encouraging scripture on each card, to get them started.
Next, I printed a few pictures from Ann Voskamp’s blog and Facebook, and laminated them.

I also included these adorable little gel pens from the Dollar Spot at Target. $1 each.

Last but not least, I added my favorite all natural, chemical free lip balm to each bag. $3.24 each.
You can purchase chemical free make up, skin care, personal care, baby care, and household products from Ava Anderson Nontoxic at http://www.avaandersonnontoxic.com/careyraymond

I tucked everything into the little bags with lots of love.

Each bag costs less than $8 each. A special Christmas gift on a tight budget!

Thrift Store Treasures

One of my favorite things to do is look through thrift stores and antique stores.

It is very therapeutic for me. There is something about seeing old things that belonged to someone long ago. It reminds me that life is short, and therefore, my problems are not as big or important as they seem.

I thought you might like to see some of the fruit of my therapy sessions.

First up is a lovely painting I found at an antique/flea market last year.

It was painted in 1969. How cool is that?!?!?

I keep it in my closet and the more I look at it, the more I love it! Which is why I always keep my eye out for more.

Finally, this past week, I’ve found another one!

I will be removing the frame and just mounting the canvas on the wall somewhere, with the other one I have. I’d love to find a few more and have a wall full.

I picked up this little set of shelves. I’ll be painting them and hanging them in my 6yo’s room.

My mom puts together little fairy gardens. I wish I had a pic of one to show you. They are usually in a large pot with a few small plants, or flowers, with a little moss or ground cover. Sometimes they have a little gnome statue, a fairy, maybe a little house, or a couple of little critter statues.

So, I just couldn’t resist grabbing every single one of these. They were only a dollar a bag!

Isn’t this a sweet little tea set?

It’s a little hard to see the one on the right. It’s a little porcelain container with a fairy and a couple of mushrooms on top.

Cowboy and a man taking a little siesta 🙂

A couple of porcelain chairs with a kitty and a bird, and a porcelain bowl.

A little clown 🙂

And last, but not least!
A garden gnome!

Here is the view from my chair where I’m typing this, and sipping an iced coffee.
It just started pouring! (Thank you, Lord!)

And the sun is still shining!

I’m off to go find the rainbow!

I’d like to Introduce You to…..

My brand new beauty blog!

💋Beauty in the Trenches!! 💋

I will continue to blog here about learning to care for a large family, our little homestead adventure, and the occasional beauty or fashion post.

Most of my beauty and fashion posts will now be at Beautyinthetrenches.com

I started Beautyinthetrenches.com because jumping back into the fashion and beauty world turned out to be way more fun than I expected!! I’m learning so much and I didn’t want to overwhelm all my gardening buddies’ blog feeds with pictures of my latest hauls and silly selfies as I play with my new passion like a kid in a candy store!

There are so many women out there sacrificing for there families. Always putting themselves last. Literally ‘in the trenches’ of family life!

My hope is that this new venture will take the intimidation out of everything beauty and fashion for those busy mamas with no time and a tight budget!

Stop by and say hi!

Sweet Mother’s Day!!

My family blessed me with a very sweet Mothers Day!

They made a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and mushrooms (my favorite!)

After that I was able to get ready for the day all. by. myself! (What a treat!)

Then a gourmet lunch of Jack’s frozen pizzas (their favorite! )

After that it was gift time!

I was given a very cute pair of earrings and a ring!

As well as this adorable bird feeder! Love it!

Then I was given a very special treasure from my treasures!!

A beautiful framed list of ’40 Reasons We Love You”
Each of my kids contributed and my oldest girl put it all together!
So precious!! And, oh yes, there were tears!

Finished off the afternoon with a trip to Starbucks and the Antique store with my youngest girl for a few treasures.

A little start to a sweet little tea set for a sweet little girl!

My husband made dinner for us all and cleaned up, too!!

Then I finished the evening with a couple of very encouraging Mother’s Day videos….

If you only have a minute, watch this one now. http://vimeo.com/m/92773428

Then, when you have a little longer, come back for this one http://www.generationcedar.com/main/2014/05/what-a-mother-needs-on-mothers-day.html

Although there was an ache that stayed with me as I missed my son (he’s off at Basic Training learning how to save the world), my family gave me such a special day!! What a blessing!!
